Fun Fact: The smash burger technique actually traces back to Oklahoma in the 1920s and '30s, born out of necessity during the Great Depression. Diners started pressing thin slices of onion directly into beef on a hot griddle. It stretched expensive beef further while infusing it with deep, caramelized flavour. What started as a budget fix became one of the most beloved burger styles in the world.
